How A Septic System Works
There are four major components:
- A house sewer line carries the waste to the septic tank.
- A septic tank, which prepares the waste material for a disposal into the leaching system.
- A liquid distribution box may be used to uniformly distribute effluents through the leaching system.
- A leaching system, which may consist of a leaching field, trenches, leaching pits (dry wells), beds or galleries which help purify the effluents by filtration through the soil.
